Dr John van Zyl – Veterinarian
After successfully establishing and working in a small animal city practice in Kempton Park for 15 years, John could no longer deny his desire to farm and work with wildlife. John has a passion for nature, wildlife, the African Bushveld and veterinary science.
He has started Waterberg Wildlife veterinary practice, in Vaalwater, Limpopo province in 2011. This serves as a base for the practice as well as the clinic and hospital to treat and perform surgery on small animals. What he enjoys most is to travel through the Waterberg region in order to dart and treat game, horses and other livestock on farms.
John is a great teacher and is involved with vet- and pre-vet students from around the world to teach as well as allow students an opportunity to gain practical experience on the farms where he works. A fair number of students have been accepted into universities and vet schools in South Africa as well as abroad after spending time with Dr. John.
